In the first part of this article, we looked at the advantages of LED lighting for your deck. We will now consider the disadvantages that you may have to deal with when you do decide to pick this type of lighting.
Disadvantages
1. The initial cost of LED lighting is higher as compared to other forms of lighting such as bulbs and tubes. This is because the cost of producing them is higher again if compared to more conventional types of lighting.
2. Apart from being expensive when initially purchasing them, LED lights for use within the home are not very widely available in remote or less known areas away from large cities or towns. This means that you have to wait before getting them if you live in such areas or you have to have them shipped/transported to you which again adds extra cost to acquiring them.
3. LED deck lighting works really well directionally which means that you can only use it for commercial flood lights or spot lighting but not for general lighting applications such as for reading or inside the home at night. This lowers the applications it can be put to within the home.
4. The colour and brightness of solar patio lights is of a much lower quality as compared to incandescent lighting. This means that even when you get an LED light which has been described a certain way; such as “warm white” you will find that the actual result is rather inconsistent. At the same time, due to the fact that most LED lamps have many little LEDs, you will find that the end result is a grainy light that shows off in little beams on surfaces such as floors, ceilings and walls.
5. Although operational life is much longer than other forms of light for LEDs, they are sensitive to wide fluctuations in voltage. They may burn out completely or be damaged prematurely such that their brightness diminishes over time.
