Nowadays, you will never know if you are secured or not, even in your own home. Therefore, by all means, you have to secure yourself as well as your family. For homes with long pathways, there is no other way to secure it than by having pathway lighting.

For sure, you have heard of this concept already. This is like a long thread of lights in your pathway to keep you guarded. With these lights, you are assured that those who attempt to get inside will fear since they can easily be seen. There also those types of pathway lighting which are too sensitive. A slight movement will cause it to light. This will create an impression to those who want to get in your house illegally that they were seen, thus they will simply opt to run away. Indeed, pathway lighting serves several purposes.

However, the problem with this lighting is the fact that you have to keep them on the entire time that you’re asleep. By doing so, you will surely increase your electric bills as well as you make use lots of electrical energy. This is not good for the environment.

Now, if these matters concern you, yet you are also concerned about your security, worry not. You can now reconcile these two. By buying solar pathway lighting, you can now have those lights on until you wake up, but still you’ve conserved electrical energy. This is how it works. At day, the solar panel will capture all possible solar energy. Then, at night the energy captured from the sun will then be used to run these lights. Therefore, no electricity is used up and you become environment friendly at that.

Thus, the next time you look at your bills, you will be surprised that it decreased a lot. This is the good thing about this eco- friendly device. For sure, you will love the thought of having one at home.

Patio lights are a great way to improve the look of your home at night and make your outdoor space more usable.  With the cost of energy rising every day, the use of solar units can be very economical for the right applications.

Reason number one is energy!  With plug-in lights, you not only have the cost of purchase but you pay every time they come on.  Admittedly, low voltage patio lighting may not use a lot of energy at any given moment but they are usually on from dusk to dawn 365 days a year.  That can add up depending on how large your installation is.  Unfortunately, you probably only get to enjoy them for a fraction of that time so why pay for the electricity?  The sun will usually provide all you need.

Ease of installation is reason number 2.  Since most solar powered lights have their power source on board (a solar panel and rechargeable battery), there are no wires to run.  You simply push them into the ground, let the sun do it’s magic and at dusk they light up independently.  Since there are no wires, you can split up the set and put them wherever you want.  Don’t like the look?  Pull them out and rearrange them all you want.  Also – no worries about where to plug them in!  Since the outlet on a patio is usually right next to the door, the wires could be a real hazard with a plug-in set.

The next one may surprise you, but purchase price is a big factor too.  Even though solar patio lights require a solar cell and battery, both are relatively small and inexpensive.  When it comes to solar panels and batteries, the size makes a big difference in the price.  With plug-in sets, you need a lot of wire plus a transformer which can add up.  Solar sets are often cheaper than a comparable plug-in set so shop around a bit.

There are a wide variety of solar patio lights available in all different styles and applications.  However, there are a few applications where they just won’t provide enough brightness.  If you do a lot of reading on your patio, or need light for security, chances are that you will need to use plug-in lights to achieve the brightness you need.  But for pure decorative lighting, solar patio lights will do the trick just fine and you’ll be surprised at how much light they actually do provide to your outdoor lifestyle.

With global warming becoming a series issue, there are now more people trying to do their parts for the environment. One of the most easy way is by using more energy efficient furnishing items. This not only helps to reduce the burden on our natural resources but they can reduce your electricity bill as well. If that sounds attractive to you, then maybe it is time for you to think about how to go about transforming your home into an energy efficient one. If you have little ideas on how to do that, here are some tips that will get you on your way.

One of the first thing you should do is to replace your current lighting with solar powered ones. In the past, solar lights are only practical for outdoor purposes but due to advances in technology, solar indoor lighting is now possible. How this technology works is fairly simple. The solar panels on the roof of your home will first absorb the solar energy and then store them in a special energy container which is used to power your indoor lighting. There is also an electrical backup in case there is insufficient solar energy stored in the container. In this way, you can be assured that you will have lights even when there is no direct sunlight for a long period of time.

Another way to be more energy efficient is to use cellular shades as your window coverings. These type of shades have the most powerful insulation ability among all window treatments. This is due to the layers of air that have been trapped within its numerous tiny cells that comprise the window shades. It is this layer of air that can help to moderate the temperature of the house and reduce the need for air conditioning or heater.

The above tips are not the only ways to have a more energy efficient home. If you explore further, you will find more things that you can do which you have never thought of.

LED lights are the growing lights of the future. After 50yrs less power, we finally have a brighter, more efficient, spectrum specific light bulb that even operates with very little heat. These aren’t just great improvements for usability, but they’re also important environmental concerns in regards to making our planet more green and our lifestyles sustainable.

Using LED lights probably aren’t your first thought when you consider purchasing lights effective for growing plants. An LED grow light now comes in all the spectrums you need to grow plants: red, orange, yellow, ultraviolet, green and blue. You can simulate the lighting requirements of the type of plants you are growing indoors with LED’s more efficiently than other lights as well.

Just how does this stack up against other sources of grow lights? Not only do you save money, but you’re using safer devices. LEDs and their plastic parts are made to last. The average life of a LED light in a commercial grade is 50,000 hours that’s equal to roughly 7.5 yrs when running 24/7. You do get value for a well put together system so you may have to shop around for the different parts needed.

For a remarkable savings on your per month operational costs lets compare. A typical lighting set up of a 10 x 10 foot area will draw approximately 400w. With LED’s you would need near to 500 bulbs to light the same area but you would only be drawing 30W of power. So even if they cost more up front, they earn money by lower operating cost. In addition, you will get less radiant heat out of a LED panel and so your safety level is raised.

Since the LED’s last longer are more impact resistant and look brighter than conventional incandescent lights, they have few downsides. Now that the technology has advanced, there are a large variety of choices for stock LED grow light panels than previously. The popularity is rising quickly as the numerous benefits of light emitting diode technology spreads. Times are moving toward people wanting to grow vegetables inside under more controlled conditions. This would permit them to have them all year out of their own compact indoor garden.

Landscaping is a very important part of making your home more beautiful and raising the initial value. However, much of our lawn and gardening improvements to our home lose their beauty after dark, since they cannot be seen to be appreciated. Aside from the beauty landscaping brings our home, accenting certain features like paths with lighting is a great idea.

Traditionally, outdoor solar yard lights has received a bad reputation as being inefficient and costly. While this may have been true of first generation solar lights with very primitive technology, solar lighting on the market today has been markedly improved. Previous photo-voltaic cells in solar lights could not convert the sun’s UV rays efficiently, so the batteries which held the stored power could only fuel the lights for a few hours before they grew increasingly dimmer.

Solar technology now allows for more efficient conversion of UV rays which means the photo-voltaic cells in each solar lamp are able to convert in a better ray to electricity ratio, which means they fuel the battery better and they can last much longer at night. In fact, current technology allows for solar lamps stay on for around three days on one full charge of their battery, which in turn means you need less direct sunlight than previously needed to keep your lawn lit at night.

That is not to say you will not need direct sunlight in order for these lamps to work properly, but if you live in an area that does not receive direct sunlight 24 hours a day, solar yard lighting is now much more viable for you. Unfortunately, it is still the most expensive form of lighting on the market, after fluorescent, incandescent, and LED lighting. This initial cost steers many people away from it, but the electricity you can save by having pure solar lighting installed will eventually pay you back over a period of a few years, which makes the investment entirely worth it.

Low voltage deck lighting is a specialty item that can change your deck from just an ordinary pile of lumber into a magical space where you want to spend every possible moment. Instead of heading indoors, or turning on big, glaring bulbs that look like spotlights in the dark, you can install soft, glowing low voltage lights that create a cozy atmosphere that will keep you in your chair long after the sun goes down.

Post caps are the most common type of deck lighting. Exactly as the name implies, they sit on top of the 4 x 4 posts that are commonly used in deck railing sections. You can buy these in a variety of materials: powder coated aluminum, PVC vinyl, brass and cooper.  They typically cast a soft glow, rather than a bright light.

If you have steps to another level, they can be lit in a variety of ways. Recessed lights can be installed flush with the step itself, or set into the riser above each step. Plastic is the most common material for recessed step lights, but you’ll also find them in brass, copper and aluminum. Recessed lights are a bit more complicated to install because you must cut holes in either the steps or the risers, fit the light fixtures into the holes, and then work on the backside to do the wiring. But the end result is well worth the extra effort.

Another, more expensive option is illuminated decorative risers. These need to be installed while the stairs are being built, but the end result is a one of a kind set of steps that will be the talk of the town. The riser boards have decorative cutouts, covered by a light diffuser panel. The light bulbs are mounted behind the riser board so that all you see from the front is the shape or design that was cut from the wood.

For more general area lighting, there are surface mount lights that can be installed either at eye level for general illumination or near the deck to create a softer, glowing ambiance.

As with other types of low voltage lighting, there are kits designed specially for decks that include all of the lights and wiring you’ll need, plus the proper transformer. Or you can put together the individual components to create a custom lighting scheme. Low voltage lighting is simple to install, so there is no reason to abandon your deck just because the sun goes down.

Although not everyone can afford them, most people would prefer to have gardens surrounding their homes. They love to decorate their gardens with a variety of plants and ornaments. However, as the years have passed, there had been a lot of improvements in the knowledge of how to put together a beautifully landscaped garden and many people now have that knowledge. What are the main differences between the gardens in earlier times and the gardens nowadays? How would a solar garden light affect the overall atmosphere of a garden? And, could you change the atmosphere of your yard by using solar yard lighting?

In earlier times, gardens were usually ornamented with different kinds of flowers, trees and shrubs as well. Some were even planted with vegetables of different kinds. Ornaments were as simple as placing some hanging plants, colored stones and pebbles. Some plants were being trimmed and shaped in various ways to add to the style.

On the other hand, gardens nowadays are more advanced. Various forms of decorations are now being used to further beautify the gardens. Aside from trimming some plants and putting some stones and pebbles, garden lights are also placed in gardens. A number of people have already started using solar garden lights for a number of reasons. First, they do not have to worry about having to pay for huge electric bills as these lights do not require electricity. They get their power directly from the sun. Another thing is that these lights are a lot easier to install and place in the garden. They do not require the use of extensions when you want to place them in farther areas. Also, you could sleep and leave these lights on because they have automatic sensors that turn off the lights at dawn.

Decorating gardens have never been this easy and fun until some wonderful improvements came into view. Solar powered garden lighting definitely set the trend in decorating and beautifying gardens in this technologically advanced generation. And, by using solar yard lighting you are giving yourself that extra bit of security which is essentially these days.
