Lighting is one the most important things whether indoors or outdoors. It should be well calculated by selecting the best lighting fixtures and the kind of light for your home, backyard or office. There is a wide range of selection of lighting styles at Hampton Bay Lighting.

Hampton Bay Lighting offers good interior lighting, which is ideal for any interior decor. If you are thinking of revamping your current home decor or looking for the best lighting design for your newly constructed premises, you need to take in consideration the setting of the particular area. This implies that you must identify the space you want to install to determine the most suitable lighting for that area.

The kitchen requires a lot of light for food preparation. You should concentrate more on the space above the sink and beneath the cabinets. You will also require more lithe lighting over the dining area. You may also want to consider a chic hanging chandelier or ceiling fan above the dining area.

Bathroom requires particular lighting. The lighting in this area should warm and inviting as well as having versatile brightness that suffices for putting on makeup. The home office and all other reading spaces where paperwork or studying is done require adequate illumination too.

You can also get lighting for exterior spaces of the home intended to enhance safety and security. Such lighting also is designed to harmoniously blend with the architectural designs of your home at the same time providing security and protection.

At Home depot, you will not only find consumer electronics but also special landscaping lighting that captures the natural beauty of the garden areas around the home, well lit walkaways and paths leading to the residence entrance. There are lightings designed for front post light, decorative wall sconces as well as exterior chandelier hangings over the front door.

Such products from Lighting are well engineered and made of the excellent quality materials. The exterior lighting is weather resistant with many years of durability and safety. These products also have low voltage or solar power that can dramatically cut your electricity bill.

If your considering using outdoor party lights to help provide outdoor lighting at your next party you might be overwhelmed at the many different types that are currently available. I’ve done some research into the varieties that are currently on the market and compiled a short list and a description of each to make it easier for you to choose what kind will best suit your needs.

The two main varieties of outdoor lights available right now are the traditional 12 volt lights that you need to plug into an exterior outlet to provide power or solar powered versions. It used to be that solar powered lights weren’t available in many styles and weren’t very powerful but with the advancements in technology in the last ten years they are now just as good as traditional plug in lights. The big difference is that instead of an electrical plug at one end of the light strand there is a small solar panel that you place in the sun.

Novelty string lights: These are lights on a strand that has a plug at one end (or a solar panel). Usually the light strand is six to twelve feet long depending on what kind you buy and they are available in many whimsical shapes and sizes. These are best used to cast ambient lighting where people will be gathering outdoors.

Lantern/globe lights: Typically available in light strands, these are useful to provide lighting alongside pathways and can be found in classic designs from paper sided globes to metal covered lanterns to provide a classic medieval feel.

Pole lights/tikki torches: These are free standing lights that are usually on a five to six foot long pole that you push into your yard to brighten your yard. You can either use the tikki torch type that has a light on the top or a shephards hook that you can hang a lantern or light from.

As you can see there many different outdoor lighting ideas for you to choose from so I hope this helps.

The best outdoor lighting systems are more a matter of which ones serve their purpose the best, more than a particular manufacturer.  There are so many different applications for outdoor lighting that it really depends on the particular use intended, what type of lighting is needed, and the amount of lighting needed.

Residential Applications

Outdoor string lights patio, deck and yard applications are some of the most familiar uses for residential settings, and these are some of the most cost effective solutions for jazzing up and livening a bland backyard setting as well, with lighting on or under glass table tops, as an example.  For around $20 per six-foot string, decorative lighting, such as mini-lanterns and colored shades, can be had from one of the many online outlets for outdoor string lights like www.OutdoorStringLightsOnline.com, and these same options are available from many other online and real-world retail applications like Amazon and Wal-Mart.

Commercial Uses

Some of the most effective uses for outdoor string lights commercial applications are in advertising and lighting up larger areas, such as those for outdoor sales events and similar functions.  When it comes to commercial outdoor string lights, there are a few more aspects that must be taken into consideration.  For one, the support and power needs of these options are much more demanding, and the physical supports and safety issues need to be taken very seriously.

Safety is the Key

Many unfortunate events can result from the improper use of outdoor lighting, and one of the most common occurrences, regardless of the many warnings against doing so, is using indoor lighting, particularly string lighting, in outdoor settings.  This one factor leads to more electric shocks and fires from lighting than most other causes combined, but year after year, many still try it.  Never use any lighting or electrical items outdoors unless it is specifically mentioned in the installation and safety instructions.

Glass or the hurricane oil lamp has been used for several centuries. Before the electricity came on the scene it was the main source of lighting for a home. Now these lamps are used more for their decorative value than for the functional one. Such oil lamps are available in several decorative styles that can be purchased and used in the homes. To absorb the oil properly the glass oil lamp wicks are generally made of fabric. It helps light up the lamp efficiently. Because the wick burns out over time it also requires replacement at regular intervals. At the stores where lamps and oils are sold the wick can also be found.

Traditional woven fabric wick comes in different variations including the new glass parts as part of the lamp. Through the top glass part the cord is threaded. After that it can be inserted in some of the lamps where burning takes place using oil.  Rounded type of cord is generally used in these items in place of usual flat woven wick that can be seen in most lamps. The traditional flat wicks can be found in different widths from 3/8 of an inch to 1/2 inch. Within the turning mechanism of the lamp this item fits well.

While 8 inch length is the standard for most of the glass oil lamp wicks, those who need it in longer length can purchase it in rolls from selected retailers. Basically these rolls are good for people who design such glass oil lamps for sale. These rolls can be about 96 inches long. It is easy to create unique designs of lamps because most of the stores selling hobby and craft products, store the simple clear glass lights. Those with creative mind can decorate, paint and fill the lamp with oil quite easily, and even sell it.

When it comes to collectibles, antique brass oil lamps are highly prized and sought after. Collectors like their beauty and craftsmanship, and in a much earlier time, these lamps served a very valuable function. They provided a source of light, but they also held the oil that it used as fuel. A wick was threaded through the lamp, so that one end would always be saturated with lamp oil. A user would light the other end.

Many of these brass oil lamps were used before electricity became standard. They served a highly functional purpose. Essentially, they kept the home lit when night fell. Plus, there was a safety issue involved. Many fires have occurred due careless use of candles. After all, a candle is nothing but an unguarded flame. If untended to, a candle could become highly dangerous. Plus, if you are walking through a dark home, you would not want to do so with a candle. Tripping hazards would become fire hazards as well.

Presently, there is no longer a need for oil lamps. However, their design has remained extremely popular. Many manufacturers now produce lighting fixtures that look like these antiques. But then again, there’s hardly any value in that. A lot of people enjoy antique collecting because of the scarcity involved. It allows them the pleasure of hunting and searching for items. That makes the eventual “finding” even so much more pleasurable. This is as much true as browsing through an antique retailer as it is for cruising through eBay.

Still, antiques may not be for everybody. In the end, interior design all comes down to look. Even if you are using a replica, the design of an antique brass oil lamp brings a lot to a space. It gives a room and old-word sense of charm, and brass is neutral enough so that it will not color clash with a lot of other accessories.

If your patio is in need of a little sprucing up, one of the things you should consider getting is a set of patio string lights.  This lighting fixture does a lot more than just illuminate an area as it also makes for a perfect garden decor.  For the most part, patios and gardens are the most neglected areas of the house so they always turn out to be a little dreary and downright depressing to look at.

Guide to Choosing Patio and Garden String Lights

When it comes to choosing lights for the patio as well as the garden, there are a number of things you should consider such as the following:

Decorative Value- The whole point of getting patio lights is to make the space more festive.  It is very important to assess whether the lights go well with the existing fixtures, if there are any, as well as the natural backdrop of the garden.  It does not necessarily have to be extravagant but it does need a certain aesthetic effect that can enhance the look of the patio.

Power Consumption- While you want your home to look great from the outside, you certainly would not want it to cost too much.  There are solar powered garden string lights which can save you hundreds of dollars in power consumption, a pleasant bonus considering the present economy.

Quality-  It is always wise to buy fixtures that can last a very long time.  This mantra also applies to buying outdoor lighting accessories since people prefer sets which they can use for many years to come.  If this falls under your requirements as well, it would be prudent to buy a high quality set rather than a cheap knock-off that is bound to breakdown within the first few weeks of use.

Outdoor lighting can get a little tricky sometimes. When choosing which types of lights to install in your yard, you may want to consider the different factors that are involved.

Stake-mounted lighting is the inexpensive way to go when designing your outdoor lighting decor. However, it does come with its disadvantages. For example, sometimes the light itself can be bulky and can distract the viewer from the feeling that the designer is trying to create. However, stake-mounted lighting is more flexible in regards to where it can be placed. As long as the lights are waterproof sealed, you don’t need to worry about the soil type that you are installing them in.

On the other hand, soil type is a major thing to consider when buying recessed lighting. This is because they are more fragile than stake-mounted lights. When you install recessed lighting, you need to make sure that the soil they are in is well-drained. This is to prevent corrosion of the lights. If they are near a sprinkler or a spot that is always wet, they are more likely to malfunction during rainy days.

One of the main advantages to recessed lighting on walkways is that they aren’t bulky, and can be easily hidden from view. This makes them safer, since people will be less likely to trip over them. They also come in a wide variety of styles and sizes, so the different possibilities are virtually endless. On the other hand, there are some disadvantages to recessed lighting. For example, they can easily be covered by falling leaves, and they are more expensive than stake-mounted lights. Also, as mentioned earlier, they need to be installed in soil that is well-drained to prevent corrosion.  So, in some ways, stake-mounted lighting is more simple than recessed lighting, even though recessed lighting is more aesthetically pleasing to the viewer.

So, when it comes to outdoor lighting, it is best to install stake-mounted lights in soil, and recessed lighting on walkways and paths that are less susceptible to flooding.

Outdoor string lights are a form of outdoor lighting that is growing in popularity.  They have always been popular when used as outdoor string lights for Christmas, but now more artistic uses are being found for them.

LED string lights have contributed greatly to the rising popularity of outdoor string lights.  These small, bright lights can create a magical atmosphere when used correctly.  They also can benefit their users by aiding in creating a safer environment.

One of these uses is when they are used to delineate the edges of steps.  Another is to outline a swimming pool or a Koi pond.  These two uses demonstrate the unique way that LED string lights can combine artistic or design purposes with safety.

One of the more popular uses is to hang them above a patio.  Multiple colors are frequently used in this application.  Imagine sitting under the bright lights shining in contrast to the darkness of the night.  Of course, hanging outdoor string lights in this manner must be done with some restraint, otherwise the effect created is more like that of a used car lot.

LED string lights are environmentally friendly. This is because LED lights use less electricity to emit the same number of lumens as other types of lighting.  When they are solar powered, they have virtually no impact on the environment.  For those who are concerned about the environment, this is significant.  Solar powered outdoor lighting has no carbon footprint. Another way in which solar powered lights help the environment is that unlike fluorescent lighting they have no mercury to pollute the environment.

Outdoor string lights will always be popular as Christmas lights, but with the advent of LED Christmas lights new forms of nighttime decoration have become possible.  Choose LED outdoor string lights to illuminate your property in new and exciting ways at the lowest cost the lowest environmental impact.
